A week to reconnect at the Forster Family Retreat

Ten-year-old Sammy has already been through more than any child ever should.

Diagnosed with Leukemia early last year, Sammy has been in and out of hospital, undergoing many rounds of chemotherapy, steroids and dialysis.

“It’s been a really tough journey being in and out of hospital with treatments and added illnesses,” said  Sammy’s mum.

Between treatment, Sammy and his family visited our Family Retreat in Forster, spending a week together to reconnect acter a challenging 14-months.

“To be able to relax at the Family Retreat has been lovely. The team have been so lovely and accommodating; making us feel welcomed and at home.”

“Sammy went fishing for the first time. We went for many strolls on the boardwalk watching the dolphins, enjoyed sunsets from our cabin and indulged in quite a bit of ice cream. On our evening walks, Sammy said: ‘this is premium air’.

Describing their stay in three words, Sammy’s mum said: “Peace. Happiness. And so much enjoyment.

“We’re so grateful to Ronald McDonald Family Retreat and their supporters for giving us the opportunity to have this time together; it’s been the reset we needed. We can’t wait until we can visit again.”

Our Ronald McDonald Family Retreat in Forster offers a welcomed sanctuary for families with a sick or injured child, or those grieving the loss of a child, to reconnect, relax and enjoy time together.
