Ronald McDonald House programs

We believe that “home” is more than four walls and a roof over your head. That’s why every Ronald McDonald House is a haven for families with children in the hospital. It provides all the comforts of home, plus the compassion of staff, volunteers, and other families — all just steps away from the hospital.

When the best medical treatment for a child is far from home, families don’t have to worry about where to stay. At Ronald McDonald House, families can be together, enjoy home-cooked meals and receive compassionate hospitality and support from staff and volunteers – all near the child’s hospital.

Ronald McDonald House Newcastle

Our Newcastle House gives seriously ill children the best gift of all – their families. Our warm and supportive ‘home away from home’ provides the whole family with a comfortable place to stay and peace of mind, knowing they be together and close to their child at John Hunter Children’s Hospital

Ronald McDonald House Tamworth

On the grounds of Tamworth Hospital, our Ronald McDonald House at Tamworth provides a ‘home away from home’ to over 170 regional families each year – offering a homely and inviting place to stay for families to stay while their new born baby, seriously ill or injured child is undergoing treatment.

“We couldn’t have gotten through what we did without Ronald McDonald House – without them, I don’t know how we could have kept the family together.” Belinda, Ronald McDonald House Northern NSW family

Our Houses are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on the health of their child. Family stays together and we stay with them – when it matters most.

Facing the weight of illness together

Families are stronger when they are together. By staying at a Ronald McDonald House, parents can be more rested, which enables them to better communicate with their child’s medical team and keep up with complicated treatment plans when needed. They can also focus on the health of their child, rather than grocery shopping, cleaning, or cooking meals.

Our primary goal is to provide safe and reliable short and long-term accommodation for regional families who have to travel away from their homes for their child to receive medical treatment at John Hunter Children’s Hospital or at Tamworth Hospital.

Fees

We understand that being away from home for long periods of time can put families under financial pressure. That’s why our accommodation is free for eligible families with sick or injured kids.

While our policy is to provide free accommodation, your stay at the House may require you to claim financial support towards accommodation and travel from the relevant government transport assistance scheme. Our friendly team are happy to work with you to apply for the relevant financial support.

To find out if you’re eligible for government financial assistance, contact your hospital social worker or talk to one of our team.
