Moments of joy for families at Retreat

Jordan, his sister Hope, and their mum recently enjoyed some much-needed time to relax and reconnect at the Family Retreat. During their stay, they had the opportunity to explore the Retreat’s Toy Library. Jordan, having only recently built the muscle tone to be able to ride a bike, was overjoyed to find bikes available for them to borrow.

The family took the opportunity to each borrow a bike, using them every day to explore the area. From the Retreat to local rock pools, water play areas, and along the break wall in Forster, where they even spotted some dolphins.

Mum shared, “This was so good for Jordan and such an encouragement to us! He rode it everywhere around Forster Tuncurry… yes, he was a tad slower, but this helped him physically and built his confidence in bike riding.”

The Toy Library allows families staying at the Retreat to borrow a variety of toys and activities—like bikes, board games, outdoor activities, and more—during their stay. Last year, over 140 items were borrowed from the Toy Library which is kindly sponsored by Forster Bowling Club and is stocked with items thanks to the generosity of the community.

The family shared, “Having the games and bikes available to use in the Toy Library made it so much easier for us as a family. To just bring the bare essentials with little fuss and less baggage was exactly what we needed. It was one less stress for us to worry about, which was a welcomed reprieve!”

The best part is that at the end of a family’s stay, items are returned, cleaned, and put back into the Toy Library, ready for the next family to enjoy and create precious memories together.
